Mick Fanning news

Been a busy couple of weeks. Went to Malaysia mid-May for Rip Curl’s upcoming boardshort campaign shoot. That was insane! Matt Wilkinson, Owen Wright, Steph Gilmore and myself were surfing the Sunway Lagoon wavepool. I’d seen some images from there in a couple of magazines and thought it looked like a pretty fun thing to do some I’m glad I got the opportunity to hit it. The shoot was like nothing I’ve done before and the vision is going to be crazy. I’ll post the clips on my site as soon as they’re ready.

Just a few days after arriving home from Malaysia I was packing my bags again. I did a quick trip to Sydney chasing swell before setting off for West Oz. Julian Wilson had asked me to join him and Taj Burrow in the West for the last trip for his upcoming signature vid, Scratching the Surface. Julian is such a legend and definitely one of my favourite surfers right now so I was really excited to be asked along on the trip.

It was a great thing to be apart of and we scored some incredible waves. The first few days were hard yaka but then everything turned and we started getting the WA we all dream off: Clean offshore lines breaking on shallow reef. Everyday we surfed from dawn till dusk then the goodtimes continued with jetski pilot Damon “Stamos” Nicholls and photographer Bosko providing the comedy.
We watched some of the footage and it was mental. I can’t wait to see it all put together… it’s going to be nuts! Definitely gonna be a MUST HAVE in your surf flick collection. Thanks to Julian, Taj and all the crew from Irons Bros Productions for making it a memorable trip. Yew!
Tomorrow I’m heading for Indo on a boat trip with Rip Curl. The swells patterns have been wild lately so hopefully it keeps up and I get some good training for J-Bay. Talk soon!
